TV Times – Jimmie Bumps And Runs For 2nd Win in a Row

He’s back-to-back two in row – Sonoma and New Hampshire! Jimmie Johnson recovered from a late bump-n-run by Kurt Busch and reclaimed the lead with only two laps left to win The LENOX Industrial Tools 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Johnson, driver of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet, went wheel-to-wheel with Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch in another exciting short track battle. Johnson captured his fifth victory and 11th top-10 finish in 2010.
“I was very, very proud of our race team and their performance and finally got to the front in time for the win,” exclaimed an exhuberant Johnson, while Crew Chief Chad Knaus shared his love for NHMS: “I’m real happy to be up here in Loudon. It’s an awesome race track! I really love racing up here, and it was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it.”
“Have it all”, the NASCAR edict, seems to be making its mark these days in the Cup and Nationwide events. We think that Brian France and his cohorts are thinking ahead to when the next TV rights expire and negotiations will begin all over again. Declining TV ratings didn’t translate into big money, but if the healthy current friction between drivers and teams continues, it’ll be only a matter of time when TV ratings will be in stratospheric proportions.
In the Sprint Cup point chase, Johnson is just 105 points behind Harvick. In the Nationwide Series, Brad Kasalowski leads arch-rival Carl Edwards by a significant margin. Danica’s scrape at NHMS took her out of the running and put her two laps down, a disappointment to her and her many supporters. Seems like she’s still on a steep learning curve. Dario Franchetti’s Izod Indy Car Demo at NHMS signals a return to NHMS on July 30, 2011, after an absence of 12 years. However, the last time the Indy Car crew were there, it was hard to sell even 25,000 tickets.
The buzz around the Northeast and NHMS is that one Cup race could move to Kentucky if O. Bruton Smith can’t get any relief from public safety charges. The relationship isn’t the best between NHMS GM Gerry Gappens and the local Loudon, NH, board of selectmen and the police chief. Although some close to the scene seem to think that each side is posturing in negotiations to get the best deal. The Cup race on Sunday wasn’t a complete sellout, and there were some empty seats, racheting up the pressure on both sides.
On the F1 front, Sabastin Vettel took the win at Valencia, Spain with Lewis Hamilton next. Hamilton is in the point lead. Mark Webber rocketed over another car and escaped injury.
TNT’s portion of the 2010 NASCAR SPRINT CUP season continues with Sunday’s race from Infineon Raceway averaged a season-low 2.7/7 (4.5 mill), down -21 percent from last year’s 3.4/8 (5.1 mill) on households. Season-to-date, NASCAR Sprint Cup Racing on TNT is averaging a 3.0/7 (4.8 million viewers). That’s down -12 percent from last year’s 3.4/8 (5.5 mill) on households. US F1 had intended to enter Formula One this season but shortly before the opening round it said it would not be ready in time. The FIA’s World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) held a hearing in Paris yesterday to decide the team’s punishment. The team claimed at the hearing they had no choice but to pull out. They said uncertainty about the signing of a new Concorde Agreement the commercial agreement between F1 teams and the series’ management and proposed budget-cap rules had hit their preparations. They also said negative comments by Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone about their chances of making the grid had deterred sponsors.
Italian tire maker Pirelli will take over from Japan’s Bridgestone as Formula One’s tire supplier from next season. Pirelli has agreed a three-year deal with Formula One. It fought off competition from British firm Avon and French manufacturer Michelin for the deal.
Bridgestone has been involved with Formula One since 1997, and became the sole provider of tires for the series in 2007. Both reports came SportsBusinessInternational.
The FIA said the WMSC did not accept US F1’s arguments and considered that the team, whilst well-intentioned, had displayed poor financial management and had underestimated the requirement to present an F1 car for the 2010 season in the time and with the financial resources available to them.
