Its time for our weekly Atop the Spotters Stand, with Clayton Hughes, spotter from the #78 Furniture Row Chevrolet driven by Regan Smith.

Clayton and I had our weekly chat about the last race and the upcoming race.

Clayton Hughes spots for Regan Smith and has been a part of Furniture Row Racing since the beginning. Clayton started spotting in 1994 on a limited basis for Darrell Waltrip in the Nationwide series.

With the craziness that went on Saturday night and two wild saves the Furniture Row team was disappointed in their finish but glad to have finished in one piece.

Clayton Hughes spots for Regan Smith and has been a part of Furniture Row Racing since the beginning. Clayton started spotting in 1994 on a limited basis for Darrell Waltrip in the Nationwide series.

As we head into the chase and the final 10 races of the season I asked about Chicago and the Chase.

What do you expect at Chicago?

Clayton answered, Crazy as Richmond, There are Chase drivers upset, faster speeds and a little more room to spread out. It should be a good race.

How is it spotting there?

Clayton responds Its a good stand with plenty of room and high enough up so you can see a lot. You dont have to use binoculars for everything, which is a good thing as things seem closer through them.

Will Boys have at itgo to a new level after Richmond?

Clayton stated You will see it all the way to Homestead.

The next questions lead to a nice discussion but insightful, surprisingly we actually agreed on this for the most part.

Should we mix things up for the chase since we have 5 mile and half tracks, like different tracks or a road course?

Clayton debated, With 5 1.5 mile tracks in the chase that we should have less. Add a road course like Montreal. A coupe more short tracks Bristol or Richmond. Fans want another Super Speedway but teams dont really and if it stays the tango not sure fans will. T racks with NASCAR history should be in the chase like Darlington.

The point that I was making through our discussion was a lot of these tracks we are going to for the second time in the season, couldnt we make it the chase is tracks we visit once, add a road course to show that our Champion can drive on any style of track. I suggested Indy and Road America. But I do agree we need to have less of the mile and half tracks.
